Overview
Endodontics treats diseases of the dental pulp. Root canal treatment (RCT) preserves a tooth that has lost vitality. Modern techniques usually complete the treatment painlessly in a single visit.
Symptoms Requiring Root Canal
Indications include: hot-cold sensitivity, nocturnal pain, tooth discolouration, pain while chewing, gum swelling or abscess, spontaneous throbbing pain.
Treatment Process
Performed under local anaesthesia. Steps: opening the tooth, cleaning the pulp chamber, shaping and filling the canals. Contrary to popular belief, root canal is not painful — with proper anaesthesia it is completely comfortable. Avoid eating/drinking until numbness wears off; avoid hard and sticky foods.
